Continentals Fall Short, 5-4, at Mercer Island
|
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles defeated the Chesapeake Continentals, 5-4. Earning player of the game honors was pinch hitter Raphaël Duval, who was 1 for 1 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The winner was Mercer Island reliever Arthur Clough, now 3-0. The loser was Jason Martin. Mercer Island leads the Premier AA by 3 games.
In the bottom of the 7th, pinch hitter Jeffery Campbell gave Mercer Island the lead when he hit a 2-run single. The Screaming Eagles had been trailing 4-3, but the two-out single off Chesapeake pitcher Jason Martin changed that -- and Mercer Island went on to win.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Campbell. "And not try to do too much."
