Mixon Goes Wild, But Screaming Eagles Win
|
Mercer Island withstood an impressive performance by Durham designated hitter Glen Allen Mixon to defeat the Rapiers, 13-9, at Rapiers Ballpark. Mixon hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 4. The winner was Gob Bluth in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Archie Erickson took the loss. Mercer Island improves to 40-25 with the win. They lead their division by 2 games.
Ray Davis, who is tied for 9th in the PAA in home runs with 8, chipped in for Mercer Island with a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth. For the game, the first baseman had 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 4 runs batted in.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Davis.
