Rapiers Shut Out Screaming Eagles
The Durham Rapiers got a strong performance from pitcher Francisco Rivera, who stymied the Mercer Island offense en route to a 2-0 win at Rapiers Ballpark. In 7 innings, Rivera surrendered 2 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 1. He allowed no runs. Stu Noble closed the game out for Durham, earning his 3rd save.

Had Carlos Evangelho not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 1st, Evangelho hit a 2-run home run. That made the score 2-0, in favor of the Rapiers.

"We put it together today and came out with the win," Evangelho said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."

Durham currently is in 7th place in the Premier AA at 24-26.
