The exploits of right fielder Stanley van de Ven, who is tied for 3rd in the PAA in RBI with 35, helped the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles defeat the Asheville Highlanders, 6-1. van de Ven went 3-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. Raimo Kangas got the win, improving to 1-0. He pitched 7.1 innings, giving up 5 hits and no runs, while striking out 8 and walking 1. Mercer Island now has a 4-game win streak.

van de Ven had a key at-bat for Mercer Island early in the game. With a runner on 1st, he hit a 2-run home run. It was his 10th home run of the season and gave Mercer Island an early 2-0 lead.
