Shooters Get Road Win, 5-1
|
A nice crowd turned out to see the Springfield Shooters and Durham Rapiers clash at Rapiers Ballpark.
Lee Charles made an impact in the 5-1 Springfield win over Durham. Charles, who is tied for 4th in the PAA in home runs with 6, went 2 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Tony DeWitt was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 1 run on 9 hits, with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Richard Hubbard finished to wrap up his 3rd save.
Springfield grabbed the momentum in the top of the fifth, when Charles, who is tied for 4th in the PAA in home runs with 6, hit a 2-run home run. His 6th home run of the season put the Shooters out in front, 3-1.
"I thought we played a nice game," Charles told the Springfield Citizen. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
Springfield, at 14-13, sits in 5th place in the Premier AA.
