Shooters Win at Asheville, 7-2
|
The Springfield Shooters stymied the Asheville Highlanders, 7-2, at Asheville Park. Lee Charles, who had a good day at the plate, was named player of the game. He was 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4 for Springfield. Rex Negrete earned the save for Springfield, his 1st of the year. The Shooters improved to 12-12.
Charles had a game-changing home run in the top of the seventh. On a 1-2 slider from Danial Apodaca, he banged a 3-run home run to left, giving the Shooters a 3-2 lead. It was the 5th home run of the year for Charles.
"We've got guys willing to do what it takes to win," Charles told the Springfield Citizen.
