Whitfield Helps Asheville Cruise to 10-1 Win
|
The exploits of right fielder Harley Whitfield helped the Asheville Highlanders defeat the Springfield Shooters, 10-1. Whitfield went 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 4. Juan Ramírez was the winner. Over 6.1 innings, he allowed 1 run on 5 hits, with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. The Highlanders' win now puts them at 11-12.
Andrew Berven had a big 2-run triple for the Highlanders in the bottom of the second inning. With Asheville leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a cutter from Pedro Lara and stroked the triple to left. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Highlanders ahead, 3-0.
"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Berven.
