Both teams had their chances, but the Durham Rapiers eventually prevailed at Rapiers Ballpark.
Durham Rapiers starter Archie Erickson was in a rhythm all game. He led his team to a win over the Asheville Highlanders, 3-2. The Rapiers are off to a tough start, getting just their 7th win in 20 games.
Had Alberto Garza not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Garza hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Rapiers.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Asheville manager Barry Embling said following the tough loss.
