Lynx Get Close Win Over Hotspur Reserves
|
Phoenix got a terrific performance from pitcher Kenny Kawaguchi, but it wasn't enough to beat the Calgary Lynx. Calgary won the Thunderbirds Stadium contest, 5-4. Kawaguchi was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball. Calgary is now 50-51.
The most critical at-bat came in the top of the ninth inning. With one out, Johan Kroening hit a 2-2 curveball from Vernon Turner for a run-scoring double. It put Calgary in front, 5-4.
"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said Phoenix manager Alfred Roberts. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
