Rainbow Mermaids Sneak Past Hotspur, 3-2
|
Phoenix got a terrific performance from pitcher Alejandro Guerra, but it wasn't enough to beat the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids. Northern Virginia won the Atlantica contest, 3-2. Guerra was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 6 innings allowing 2 runs. Iván García notched his 13th save in 18 chances. Northern Virginia is now 46-45.
Kyoji Hakoda drew 1 walk for Northern Virginia. The 34-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Morris Prinkey. It was his 67th RBI of the season.
"It's good to win," Hakoda told the Northern Virginia News. "I like to have fun doing it."
