Hotspur Solve Patriots, 6-4
|
Despite a fine performance by catcher Timmy Appeldoorn, the Boston Patriots suffered a 6-4 loss to the Phoenix Hotspur. Appeldoorn was 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Phoenix reliever Morris Prinkey was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Piotr Oja took the loss for Boston. Santiago Alonza earned the save, his 16th.
Had Hieronymus Bosch not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Bosch hit a 2-run double. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Hotspur.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Phoenix manager Michael Esposito.
Phoenix has now won 3 straight, while the Patriots have lost 3 in a row.
