Longnecks Raise Rally Flag, Beat Bakersfield, 4-2
|
The Bakersfield Nobles got a sterling performance from pitcher Victor Lustig, but the Longnecks still prevailed, 4-2. Lustig was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball. The win was Jesús Medina's in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Nésto Gago took the loss for Bakersfield. Ieyoshi Asai picked up the save for Bloomington, his 7th of the year.
Gabrio Campoverde took Nésto Gago deep in the top of the ninth. His solo home run put the Longnecks on top, 3-2. In all, Campoverde had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
Bakersfield manager Enrique Castro said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
Bloomington is now 17-11, Bakersfield 15-13.
