Farmers Come Up Short at Ottawa
|
Fans who came to Nationals Park watched the Ottawa Nationals and the Lancaster Farmers fight to the finish.
The Ottawa Nationals took Lancaster pitcher Marnix van Rijn's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Nationals Park. The final score had Ottawa getting past the Farmers, 3-2. van Rijn went 6 innings and allowed 3 earned runs, striking out 4. Ottawa reliever Walt Wilson picked up the win, upping his record to 4-0. Marnix van Rijn was saddled with the loss.
Had Alan Shaw not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Shaw hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Nationals.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Lancaster manager Coy Knight said following the tough loss.
The Nationals improved to 49-48.
