Hops Sneak Past Polar Bears, 6-5
|
The Yakima Hops topped the Billings Polar Bears, 6-5, with youngster Joaquín Lara playing a key role. Lara went 3 for 4 with 2 triples, while scoring 2 runs for the Hops in the win. The winner was Yakima reliever Pieter Spitsbaard, now 7-6. The loser was Francisco López. The save went to Marvin Cahill, his 10th this season.
Had Rodrigo Rodríguez not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Rodríguez hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Hops.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Yakima manager Craig Walters.
Yakima is now 43-33. Billings is 33-43.
