|
Northern Virginia beat Boston on the strength of starter Javier Desdin's fine effort. The left-hander led his team to a 4-3 win. In 5.2 innings, Desdin surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 3. He allowed 3 runs. Ilie Paunescu, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 8th save.
The Rainbow Mermaids got a big at-bat from center fielder Ty Tomblin. For the game, Tomblin went 2-4 with 2 singles. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 62nd hit of the season gave Northern Virginia a 4-3 lead.
"I had pretty good command out there," said Desdin.
Northern Virginia, at 41-36, sits in third place in the Premier League.
