Deuces Get Past Billings for 2-1 Win
|
The Virginia Beach Deuces picked up a win at Virginia Beach Grounds, knocking off the Billings Polar Bears, 2-1. Starting pitcher Wu-shiun Lao played a key role in the triumph. Virginia Beach reliever John Wallbank got the win, raising his record to 2-3. Eduardo Díaz was tagged with the loss. The save went to Urs Ehles, his 13th this season.
Had Gerardo Espinoza not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Espinoza hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Deuces.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Billings manager Todd England said following the tough loss.
Billings's current losing streak has reached 9 games.
