Despite a great performance by Virginia Beach third baseman Stan Pagnotta, the Yakima Hops defeated the Deuces by the score of 12-9 at Hops Park. Pagnotta went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Faisal bin Nabeel got the win, improving to 1-1. He held the Deuces to 6 earned runs on 4 hits over 5 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 5. Pieter Spitsbaard earned the save, his 4th, for the Hops.

Tied up with the Deuces in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Hops got a boost from center fielder Ed Berry. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Berry saw a full count fastball from John Wallbank and hit a 2-run double to break the stalemate and put Yakima on top, 8-6.

"We came out aggressive," said Hops manager Craig Walters. "We came out swinging the bats."

The defending champion Hops have struggled a bit to find their groove this season, but improve to 8-8 with the win.
