84s Win at Thunder Bay, 3-2
|
Thunder Bay got a terrific performance from pitcher Francisco García, but it wasn't enough to beat the Greenville 84s. Greenville won the Great Northern Field contest, 3-2. García was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings allowing 3 runs. Greenville reliever Manuel Rodríguez picked up the win, upping his record to 5-5. Francisco García was saddled with the loss. Greenville, at 37-49, sits in last place in the Third League.
Greenville used the timely hitting of Wilbert Carter to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put the 84s on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Carter told a Greenville Citizen reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
