Mateo, Disaster Get 4-2 Win
|
The Port Royal Disaster got a stellar performance from pitcher Claudio Mateo, who handcuffed the Santa Barbara offense en route to a 4-2 win at Crane Field. Earning his 17th save for Port Royal was Jon King. Port Royal is now 30-31, Santa Barbara 29-32.
Mateo, a native of Ciudad Guayana, Venezuela, was dealing all game. He kept Santa Barbara hitters off-balance, while giving the Disaster 7.2 quality innings. Mateo threw 118 pitches, allowing 4 hits and striking out 11.
"We were the better team today. Maybe that won't be the case next game, but we'll enjoy it for now," Mateo told the Port Royal News.
