Fighting Dachsunds Edge Battlekings, 5-4

The Ellenburg Fighting Dachsunds did just enough to secure a 5-4 victory over the Naperville Battlekings at Constellation Ballpark. Nobody did more than pitcher Gabriel Escobar, who captured player of the game honors. Escobar got the win, improving to 5-1. He allowed 2 hits and walked 2 over 5.1 innings. Escobar allowed no earned runs. The losses continue to mount for Naperville, which has now dropped 6 in a row.
Had Theron Montecalvo not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Montecalvo hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Fighting Dachsunds.
"That's the key at this level, throwing strike one," said Escobar. "Successful pitchers do it."
