The Portland Evergreens bested the Panama City Piranhas by a score of 6-5, with designated hitter Dewitt Hopper getting the main credit. On the day, Hopper went 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 times for the Evergreens. Reliever Júlio Rodríguez picked up the win. His record improves to 4-1. Mark Valle took the loss. Portland has run its win streak to 7 in a row.
Portland used the timely hitting of Willie McGirt to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Evergreens on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said McGirt.
