Irving Blue Sox starter Manuel Montero was in a rhythm all game. He led his team to a win over the Athletic Club KC Academy, 3-1. Montero, now 6-2, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 9, walking 2, and allowing 1 earned run. Matthew Fallows closed the game out for Irving, earning his 12th save.
Irving relied on the hitting of Enrique Gómez to pick up the win. The second baseman clubbed a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Blue Sox on top, 3-1. For the game, Gómez had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"It was a tough night at the plate," said Athletic Club KC Academy manager Brendan Andrews.
The Blue Sox' win now puts them at 47-42.
