The Myrtle Beach Mermen turned back the Long Island Seawolves, 3-2, at Tennille Grounds. Juan Laguna was named player of the game for his fine performance. He was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs. Chad Li was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts. Bob Christison was called on to finish, recording his 19th save.
Laguna had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a first pitch fastball from Henri Paravicini, he banged a solo home run to right, giving the Mermen a 3-2 lead. It was the 8th home run of the year for Laguna.
Laguna said the team appreciates the support from the fans. "I'm glad we could reward them with a good win," he said after the game.
The winning streak has now reached 4 games for Myrtle Beach.
