Mermen Raise Rally Flag, Beat Glendale, 4-2
|
Myrtle Beach and Glendale duked it out at Heron Field and the Mermen came out victorious.
The Myrtle Beach Mermen beat the Glendale Herons, 4-2, at Heron Field. Armando Romero was recognized as player of the game for his performance. He went 4 for 4 with 2 doubles, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The 22-year old first baseman was a menace to Glendale all day. Tomás Huesca earned the win for Myrtle Beach. He lasted 7.1 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits, while striking out 3. With the win, he raised his record to 5-3. Getting the save was Bob Christison, his 16th.
Had Roberto Vázquez not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Vázquez hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Mermen.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Romero.
Myrtle Beach is now 25-20, Glendale 23-22.
