Blue Sox Get One-Run Win at Salem
|
Irving beat Salem at Ricochets Ballpark, escaping with a 5-4 win. The win in large part was due to designated hitter Scott Donlan, who earned player of the game honors. He went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The winner was Jorge Villanueva, who threw 101 pitches over 6.1 innings. The right-hander was charged with 4 runs on 6 hits. Picking up the save was Ron Anderson, his 5th.
Donlan had a game-changing single in the top of the seventh. On a 2-1 slider from William Fothergill, he banged a run-scoring single to right-center, giving the Blue Sox a 5-4 lead. It was the 38th hit of the year for Donlan.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Donlan said.
The Blue Sox' win now puts them at 19-16.
