Miners Win at Myrtle Beach, 3-1

Tennille Grounds was the site of a tense game between the Myrtle Beach Mermen and Marquette Miners.
The Marquette Miners defeated the Myrtle Beach Mermen, 3-1, in USSL Double A action at Tennille Grounds, with Marquette pitcher Devin Gaines named player of the game. In 7.2 innings, Gaines surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 0. He allowed 1 run.
With one out in the top of the fourth, Franklin Kelley stroked a go-ahead run-scoring single. It was his 38th hit of the season and put Marquette in front, 1-0.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Kelley told reporters after the game.
The win boosts the Miners to 15-17. The loss puts the Mermen at 18-14.
