Mermen Win Again, Extend Streak to 6
|
The Myrtle Beach Mermen faced a tough opponent in Atlantic City pitcher Joaquín Pérez, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Sonics Ballpark by a final score of 3-2. Pérez went 7 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. Bob Christison got credit for the save for Myrtle Beach. It was his 9th of the year. Myrtle Beach is now riding a 6-game win streak.
The Mermen beat the Sonics with some clutch hitting. The double by Tumas Wenzu in the top of the third is a good example. With two down, Wenzu gave his team the lead, 2-0, when he came through with the big hit.
"We did enough to win," said Wenzu.
