Late Rally by Great Lakers Secures Win
|
The Pure Michigan Great Lakers did just enough to secure a 4-3 victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters at Lansing Park. Nobody did more than pitcher César Román, who captured player of the game honors. Andrei-Luiz Frial earned the save for Pure Michigan, his 11th of the year. The Great Lakers bumped their record to 24-24 with this latest triumph.
The Great Lakers got a big at-bat from third baseman Tony Gutiérrez. For the game, Gutiérrez was 2-4 with 2 triples, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the eighth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a run-scoring triple. His 3rd triple of the season gave Pure Michigan a 4-3 lead.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Gutiérrez, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
