7-2 Win by Evergreens Continues Hot Start
|
Benefiting from an exceptional performance from Ramón Garmendia, the Portland Evergreens defeated the D.C. Divided, 7-2. Garmendia was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs for the Evergreens. Bob Mullinax, who went 7 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 7 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 5. His record now stands at 4-0. Portland is now 23-8, 4 games up in the Premier League.
Boiling Springs, South Carolina-born Willie McGirt came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 1st and 3rd and the Evergreens trailing 1-0, he hit a 2-run triple to left-center to put Portland on top.
"I thought we played a nice game," Garmendia told the Portland Citizen. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
