Victory Pushes Rainbow Mermaids Record to 14-9
|
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids got a strong performance from pitcher Raúl Gómez, who stymied the Portland offense en route to a 4-1 win at Atlantica. In 7.2 innings, Gómez surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 2. He allowed no runs. Iván García earned save number 7.
Melito Báez, who won the Newcomer of the Year Award in 2029, aided the Northern Virginia cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the second baseman was 1 for 4.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Gómez told reporters after the game.
At 14-9, Northern Virginia is in third place in the Premier League.
