Plainsmen, Fernández Blank Torch Monday, May 27th, 2030 Today was Jesús Fernández's turn in the rotation for the Nebraska Plainsmen and he made the most of it, shutting out the Mancelona Torch on 3 hits. The 19-year-old right-hander led the Plainsmen to an easy 8-0 victory, allowing 3 walks and tallying 4 strikeouts. "I hope we miss him next time," Mancelona manager Brian Atkins said. "Fernández certainly pitched a strong game against us today. He was in a groove, throwing everything for strikes. Throwing hard. Changing speeds." So far this year Fernández has made 5 starts, tossed 40 innings, struck out 32 batters and walked 13. His record is 2-2 with a 2.92 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .186 batting average.
