Evergreen Park was the site of a competitive game between the Philadelphia 1776 BC and Portland Evergreens.
In a tight game between the Portland Evergreens and the Philadelphia 1776 BC, pitcher Bob Mullinax was terrific on the mound. The Portland left-hander was named the player of the game in Portland's 3-1 win. Mullinax, the winner, moves to 2-0. He threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 2 walks.
In the bottom of the third inning, right fielder Chris Payling came through big-time for the Evergreens. With Portland leading 1-0, he belted a solo home run.
Mullinax attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
Portland is now 60-24, 9 games up in the Silver League.
