Late Rally by Middies Secures Win
|
Grafton withstood an impressive performance by New Amsterdam right fielder John Burton to defeat the Dutchmen, 6-5, at Field of the Middies. Burton went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times. Truman Valentine picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 5-2. Walt Coffman was tagged with the loss. Lynwood Matos was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 2 of 2 save opportunities.
Grafton took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. With one out, pinch hitter Lúcio López hit a 3-run home run that set the crowd abuzz.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," López told the Grafton Herald.
Grafton occupies third place in the Silver League at 35-27.
