The Grafton Middies turned back the Portland Evergreens, 6-5, at Evergreen Park. Jorge Flores was named player of the game for his fine performance. He was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Robbie Baxter earned the win for Grafton. He lasted 6 innings, allowing 5 earned runs on 7 hits, while striking out 3. With the win, he raised his record to 3-2. Grafton is now 28-18, while Portland is 29-17.
Grafton designated hitter Cristo González changed the complexion of the game in the top of the sixth inning. That's when he belted a 2-run home run off Miguel Cervantes. His 10th home run of the season put Grafton in front, 6-5.
"We take it day by day here," said Flores, "and today was a good one for us."
