Facing elimination, the Phoenix Hotspur were looking for a savior. For today, at least, Wes Hamm delivered.

At Chase Field, the 31-year old pitched a game for the ages to fend off the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids and help the Hotspur close their deficit in the Round 2031. Hamm threw a 9-inning, complete-game shutout in the 3-0 Phoenix win, striking out 8 and allowing 4 hits. The Hotspur how trail - in the best-of- series.

Hamm was in the zone all game. He frustrated Northern Virginia hitters while giving the Hotspur 9 innings of quality work. Hamm threw 114 pitches, allowing 4 hits and getting 8 punchouts.

"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Hamm told reporters after the game.

The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Chase Field. The scheduled starters for the game are Aurelio López for Northern Virginia and Miguel Rubia for Phoenix.
