Almost There: Oakland On Cusp of R1 Triumph After 5-2 Win
|
The Oakland Oaks are one game away from a sweep after a 5-2 win over the visiting Boston Patriots at Oakland Coliseum today. Oaks right-hander Mal Houser was named player of the game after a strong outing in which he threw 6 innings allowing 2 runs. Oakland now holds a - advantage in the best-of- Third League Championship.
In the bottom of the 6th, catcher Edwin Church gave Oakland the lead when he hit a 2-run home run. The Oaks had been trailing 2-1, but the two-out home run off Boston pitcher Lúcio Sánchez changed that -- and Oakland went on to win.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Houser. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
