Pivotal Game Goes to Host Thundercats, 7-3
|
A strong performance from pitcher Kenny Koehler was not enough for the Wizarding Express, who were stopped by the visiting Richardson City Thundercats in a 7-3 loss in Game of the Round 1 today. The Thundercats never truly figured out the right-handed Koehler, who threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball to earn player of the game honors. Still, the Thundercats now hold a - in the best-of- series.
Had Anselmo Berneu not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Berneu hit a 2-run double. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Thundercats.
Berneu told a Richardson City Gazette reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
