van de Vlugt Delivers Walk-Off Win for Dutchmen
|
New Amsterdam starter Rusty Swanson had a strong outing against the Philadelphia 1776 BC at Dutch Master Park. The left-hander was a big part of his team's 3-2 win. New Amsterdam reliever Frenk Norman got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Brian Brewer was tagged with the loss. New Amsterdam, at 12-11, occupies 5th place in the Silver League.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 13th inning, when New Amsterdam third baseman Menno van de Vlugt, facing Brian Brewer, had a run-scoring single. It gave the Dutchmen the 3-2 win.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" New Amsterdam manager Sal Gaudio said.
