Hammond rode a good effort from starter Ryunosuke Kurota to beat the South Beach Blaze at The Ballpark on the Beach. The final score was 4-1. Kurota, now 5-7, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 9, walking 1, and allowing 1 earned run. Bob Christison, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 7th save.

It could have been a different outcome for Hammond, had it not been for Ronaldo Gentil, the 18-year old shortstop . Gentil contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the second inning to put Hammond up, 2-0.

Kurota told a Hammond Observer reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.

Even with the win, the Herons have a dismal 19-64 record.
