Chukars Come Up Short at Washington
|
Idaho Falls got a terrific performance from pitcher José Castro, but it wasn't enough to beat the Washington Generals. Washington won the Washington Park contest, 1-0. Castro was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 5 innings of shutout ball. Robert Acker got the win, improving to 2-4. He pitched 8 innings, giving up 13 hits and no runs, while striking out 4 and walking 1. Ramón Cortéz closed it out for his 3rd save.
The Generals got a big at-bat from first baseman Dan Vanblarcom. For the game, Vanblarcom was 1-3. In the bottom of the seventh, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 73rd hit of the season gave Washington a 1-0 lead.
"I felt good up there," said Vanblarcom. "I saw the ball well."
Washington is now 42-31.
