Bruins Need Extras to Top Bulls
|
Bellevue Field was the site of a competitive game between the Mt. Vernon Bulls and Bellevue Bruins.
The Bellevue Bruins topped the Mt. Vernon Bulls, 5-4, with youngster Jorge Ayala playing a key role. Ayala went 4 for 5 with a triple and 3 singles, while scoring 2 times for the Bruins in the win. Bellevue reliever Paco Salazar was credited with the win, to go to 6-2. Júlio Luna took the loss for Mt. Vernon.
Ken Paige found himself in a pressure situation in the bottom of the 11th. Facing Mt. Vernon hurler Júlio Luna, the 19-year-old first baseman hit a walk-off run-scoring single. His 20th hit of the season put the Bruins on top, 5-4.
"I was able to barrel up some pitches," said Ayala.
Bellevue leads the Silver A by 7 games.
