Guzzlers Get Close Win Over Bruins
|
Galesburg overcame a superlative game from Jeff Porter to beat Bellevue, 4-2. The Bellevue pitcher took player of the game honors in a losing cause. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball. The save went to Steve Wortley, his 10th this season. Galesburg is now 31-31, Bellevue 41-21.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Peter Perrantes came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Bellevue pitcher Paco Salazar, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Galesburg on top, 3-2.
Bellevue manager José Vázquez said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
