Close Win Moves Torch to 51-45
|
The Nebraska Plainsmen and Mancelona Torch provided some drama at Plain Old Stadium.
The Mancelona Torch turned back the Nebraska Plainsmen, 6-5, at Plain Old Stadium. Alohanani Koora was named player of the game for his fine performance. He went 2-5 with a triple, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Pu-feng Zhou got the win, improving to 17-8. He held the Plainsmen to 2 earned runs on 6 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 3.
Jorge Vélez's at-bat in the top of the fifth inning was a big one for Mancelona. Coming to bat with two out, the bases loaded and Mancelona leading 3-2, the left fielder reached on an error by the shortstop, driving in 1 run.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Mancelona manager Brian Atkins.
Mancelona now owns a record of 51-45.
