Plainsmen Win at Mancelona, 5-2

Nebraska and Mancelona duked it out at Torch Field and the Plainsmen came out victorious.
The Nebraska Plainsmen topped the Mancelona Torch, 5-2, in M3L Single A action at Torch Field. The player of the game was Nebraska pitcher Jesús Fernández. Fernández went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 2, and struck out 9. His record improves to 6-5. Nick Kelley got the save, the 15th for him this season.
The Plainsmen got a big at-bat from shortstop Gerardo Ponce de Leon. For the game, Ponce de Leon was 2-5 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the top of the third, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Nebraska a 3-0 lead.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Ponce de Leon told the Nebraska Daily.
The Plainsmen improved to 33-26.
