Maik Palen helped his team muscle past the Richland Rails, 11-7. In the game, the Myrtle Beach left fielder went 2-3 with 2 singles and 2 walks. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Tony Alfonso, credited with the win, is now 12-6. He allowed 3 runs on 3 hits in 6.2 innings. The Mermen raised their record to 47-50.
It could have been a different outcome for Myrtle Beach, had it not been for Landon Edwards, the 23-year old shortstop . Edwards contributed a run-scoring double in the bottom of the third inning to put Myrtle Beach up, 1-0.
