Mercer Island pitcher Jules Goux did his part in helping his team beat the Richland Rails, 3-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Mercer Island reliever Mario López picked up the win, upping his record to 6-4. Ron Armstrong was saddled with the loss. The save was credited to Luis Oropeza, his 3rd.
Late-game drama came in the top of the ninth inning. With two out and a runner on 1st, the batter, Marcel Escoda, hit a single. It helped Mercer Island seize the win.
"To not win that game stings a little bit," said Richland manager Allen Bartlett.
Mercer Island goes to 56-35. The win puts them 5½ games up in their division.
