Grey Wolves Topple Rainbow Mermaids with Late Rally
|
With first baseman Preston Witt leading the charge, the Vancouver Grey Wolves defeated the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids, 7-5, at Atlantica. Witt, who is tied for 3rd in the PL in hits with 111, went 3-5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Francisco Valdés picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 7-0. Iván García was tagged with the loss. The 7th-place Grey Wolves have won 5 consecutive games.
Had Ted Striker not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Striker hit a 2-run single. That made the score 7-5, in favor of the Grey Wolves.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Witt said after the game.
