Late Rally by Hotspur Secures Win
|
The Phoenix Hotspur did just enough to secure a 4-3 victory over the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids at Atlantica. Nobody did more than pitcher Wes Hamm, who captured player of the game honors. The winning pitcher was Hamm, now 7-6. He tossed 9 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 10. The Hotspur bumped their record to 40-38 with this latest triumph.
Alex Niemann made it 4-3 in favor of Phoenix when he delivered a run-scoring single. It came with two out in the top of the ninth. The Hotspur went on to win.
"It feels good to get that win," said Hamm. "Now it's on to the next one."
