Glendale left-hander Yoriyoshi Yoshimura made an effective start against the Billings Polar Bears at Heron Field, leading his team to a 7-5 win. Yoshimura got the win, improving to 3-4. He allowed 5 hits and walked 7 over 7.1 innings. Yoshimura allowed 1 earned run. Juan Sánchez earned the save for Glendale, his 19th of the year.
Michael Sweeney had a big 2-run single for the Herons in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Glendale leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Ramón García and stroked the single to center. It was his 57th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Herons ahead, 4-1.
"We'll savor this win," Yoshimura told the Glendale Observer, "then get ready for the next game."
Glendale is now 35-21. Billings is 25-31.
