Herons Nip Rawhides, 9-8
|
Fans who came to Field of the Rawhides watched the Glendale Herons and the Belvedere Park Rawhides fight to the finish.
The Belvedere Park Rawhides got a superb performance from shortstop Juan Alvarado. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Glendale. The Herons won the game, 9-8. In spite of the loss, Alvarado was named the player of the game. He went 1 for 2 with 3 walks, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Cris Mendoza, who went 5.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 5 runs on 10 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 7. His record now stands at 8-2. Picking up the save was Juan Sánchez, his 17th.
Takechi Okubo, who is tied for 10th in the 3AA in doubles with 9, aided the Glendale cause with a run-scoring walk in the top of the sixth. For the game, the third baseman drew 1 walk in 5 trips to the plate.
"I still think this team has room for improvement," Okubo told the Glendale Observer.
Glendale leads the Menard's AA by 2˝ games.
